Notice of Intent to Adjust Compensation

UPDATE:  The Board of Commissioners adopted the resolution to adjust compensation at the February 17, 2022 Regular Meeting.  Compensation adjustment becomes effective January 1, 2023. 


FORSYTH COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS NOTICE OF INTENT AND FISCAL IMPACT STATEMENT REGARDING PROPOSED COMPENSATION INCREASE

 

The Forsyth County Board of Commissioners hereby provides notice of intent that at the Board of Commissioners’ regular meeting on February 17, 2022, at 5:00 p.m. in the Commissioners’ Meeting Room, Suite 220 of the Forsyth County Administration Building at 110 East Main Street, Cumming, Georgia 30040, the Board will take up and possibly adopt a Resolution that will adjust the salary, compensation, expenses, and expenses in the nature of compensation of the members of the Forsyth County Board of Commissioners. At the meeting, the Board will vote on a Resolution to adjust the Board’s salary, expenses, and expenses in the nature of compensation, to become effective January 1, 2023, such that the Board members will receive annual base salary of $42,900.76, except the Chair will receive $44,747.71 as an annual base salary. These base amounts may be adjusted annually in accord with O.C.G.A. 36-5-27, 36-5-28, and 36-5-29. 

 

The Board members will be entitled to the standard benefits and retirement plan of active full time Forsyth County employees, including any health plan for present and former County employees or present or former elected officials that the Board of Commissioners may, from time to time, adopt.  Board members will be entitled to expense reimbursement as provided for in the policies of the Forsyth County Civil Service System and the Forsyth County Employee Handbook.  If a County car is utilized for travel, mileage reimbursement shall not be allowed.  Board members shall not be entitled to accrue personal time or comp time.

The annual estimated cost of the salary including imputed benefits, shall be approximately $ 71,888.00 for each Board Member, except for the Chair for whom the estimated cost shall be $73,738.00, thereby resulting in a total annual estimated expense of $361,290.00 for all Board Members. The adjusted salary and benefits of Board Members will not mandate or cause an increase in the Forsyth County property tax millage rate. This notice is published pursuant to O.C.G.A.  § 36-5-24.

Amendment to Local Act Applicable to the Forsyth County Board of Commissioners

UPDATE:  At the June 16, 2022 Regular Meeting, the Board of Commissioners approved the second of two required approvals for the adoption of the proposed amendment to the enabling legislation.  The Board of Commissioners voted on the first approval at their June 2, 2022 Regular Meeting. 


NOTICE OF CONSIDERATION OF AMENDMENT TO THE FORSYTH COUNTY ENABLING LEGISLATION

 

Re:       Proposed Amendment to Local Act Applicable to the Forsyth County Board of Commissioners

 

Notice is hereby given that the Board of Commissioners of Forsyth County, Georgia will consider utilizing Home Rule to amend Section 4 of the Act creating the Board of Commissioners of Forsyth County, Georgia, (the Board’s enabling legislation) approved June 30, 1964 (Ga. L. 1964, Ex. Sess., p. 2225), as amended, pursuant to Article IX, Section II, Paragraph I of Georgia Constitution at the Board’s regular meetings on June 2, 2022 and June 16, 2022 at 5:00 p.m. in the Commissioners’ Meeting Room, Suite 220 in the Forsyth County Administration Building located at 110 East Main Street, Cumming, Georgia 30040.  Final action on this proposed modification will occur June 16, 2022. The proposed amendment will modify Section 4 of the enabling legislation pertaining to qualifications of a Board Member, by removing the prohibition against a Board Member holding another county, municipal, or state office. Copies of the proposed amendment (as reflected in the Resolution and Ordinance of Amendment) are on file in the Office of the Clerk of Superior Court of Forsyth County and the Forsyth County Administrative Clerk for the purpose of examination and inspection by the public.

Notice of Intention to Introduce Local Legislation Regarding Hotel/Motel Excise Tax

NOTICE OF INTENTION TO INTRODUCE LOCAL LEGISLATION

 

Notice is hereby given that there will be introduced at the 2021-2022 regular session of the General Assembly of Georgia legislation that will authorize Forsyth County to increase its excise tax on rooms, lodgings, and accommodations (hotel/motel excise tax) from 5% to 8% in accord with O.C.G.A. 48-13-51(b); to provide for required expenditures of the tax during each fiscal year of collection; to provide for an effective date; and for other purposes.

August Notice of Public Hearing Regarding Partial Update to Comprehensive Plan

NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARINGS 

Notice is hereby given that the Forsyth County Board of Commissioners will hold a public hearing regarding a partial update to the Comprehensive Plan at the Board’s meeting on Thursday, August 4, 2022, at 5:00 p.m. in the Forsyth County Administration Building, 110 East Main Street, Commissioners Meeting Room 220, Second Floor, Cumming, Georgia. The purpose of the public hearing shall be to present a draft of an updated Comprehensive Plan based on public feedback gathered in 2021-2022. All residents and any other affected and/or interested persons are invited and encouraged to attend. 

The Comprehensive Plan draft may be viewed online or by visiting the Department of Planning & Community Development, 110 East Main Street, First Floor, Forsyth County Administration Building, Cumming, Georgia, Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
