Eagle’s Beak Park Phase I will feature a canoe and kayak river launch and nature trails

Northwest Forsyth County will be home to a new passive park, for which ground was broken Tuesday, November 15. The new Eagle’s Beak Park will be located off of Old Federal Road in Ball Ground, and its construction is being funded by the Parks, Recreation and Green Space Bond approved by Forsyth County voters in 2008 and by the Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST) VI program.

Phase I of the new approximately 230-acre park will feature a canoe and kayak launch on the Etowah River, nature trails, restroom facility and parking. The county purchased the bulk of the land for Eagle’s Beak Park in 2009 with funds from the Parks, Recreation and Green Space Bond.

District 4 Commissioner Cindy Jones Mills, in whose district the future park is located, shared her excitement about the new project.

“We are so fortunate that in 2008 the voters had the vision to approve the $100 million Parks, Recreation and Green Space Bond that would give the county the much-needed resources to purchase this beautiful piece of property,” said Jones Mills. “Because of those funds, this land was able to be preserved and soon it will be able to be used by families to canoe on the Etowah River or walk on the nature trails. I'm very proud to have served on the Bond Committee and on the Parks & Recreation Board that worked for the passage of the Bond, so that parks like this could be purchased and preserved for families to use and make memories that will last a lifetime.” 

“Forsyth County is well known for our outstanding park amenities, and this new park will certainly add to that,” said Jim Pryor, director of Parks & Recreation. “We are particularly excited about the new canoe and kayak launch which we believe will be a very popular amenity.”

Completion of Phase I is expected in spring 2017. Design of the park was completed by Amec Foster Wheeler. Construction of the park was awarded to Tri Scapes, Inc. in the amount of $1,367,460.
