Commissioner R.J. (Pete) Amos was elected in 2010 to serve as the District 1 commissioner for the 2011-2014 term.

Commissioner Amos is a former member of the Forsyth County Planning Commission, and served as the commission’s chairman for six years. He has completed the Commissioners Training Program through the Association County Commissioners of Georgia (ACCG). In 2013, he was elected to the ACCG Group Self Insurance Workers’ Compensation Fund Board of Trustees.

Commissioner Amos is a graduate of the University of Georgia with a degree in Business Administration. He is a small business owner whose family has lived in north Georgia for generations. Commissioner Amos is a state licensed master plumber, state licensed building contractor, state licensed class IV water operator and state licensed GSWCC Level 1A.

He has served on the Cumming United Methodist Finance Board, has been a member of the Forsyth Rotary Club for over 20 years, and has served as treasurer and sergeant at arms for the Forsyth Rotary Club. His community involvement also includes serving for two years as president of Forsyth Central High School Football and Basketball Booster Club, and coaching youth football, baseball and basketball.

Pete and his wife Catherine were recognized as ‘Parents of the Year’ by Otwell Middle School for the 1995-96 school year.
