Frequently Asked Questions

What is the goal of Capital Projects?

The Capital Projects Department oversees the completion of larger County construction projects including transportation, water & sewer, parks and recreational facilities, fire stations, and administrative offices. Capital Projects actively manages the delivery of planning, design, and construction for on-time, in-budget capital projects, in support of the mission of Forsyth County and its responsibility to the community. By focusing solely on the coordination and completion of larger projects, other partner County departments can focus on other tasks more relevant to their specific goals and scope in serving the community.

Is Capital Projects different from Engineering?

Yes. Engineering is focused on maintaining the County's infrastructure needs through the proper placement and maintenance of roadways, drainage structures, pedestrian walks, and traffic control devices while Capital Projects is focused on the completion and management of large scale projects that often involve multiple departments, municipalities, private vendors and utility providers.

How do projects get selected to be implemented by the County?

Based on the Forsyth County Capital Improvement Plan, Comprehensive Traffic Plan, Federal, State, and local funding, projects are selected based on current County infrastructure needs.

How do I find whether a transportation project is being managed by Forsyth County or Georgia Department of Transportation?

If a proposed project is near my property, when will I be notified of potential property conflicts or potential Right of Way (ROW) acquisition?

Once ROW plans are finalized by the engineer of record, the Capital Projects ROW Group will begin notifying property owners of potential conflicts and potential ROW/easement acquisitions.

What is the ROW acquisition process and how long is the process?

Once ROW plans are finalized by the engineer of record, the Capital Projects ROW Group will obtain third party title searches and property appraisals based on the proposed property impacts.
