2023 Property Tax Relief Grant Provided for Forsyth County Property Owners
Forsyth County homesteaded property owners will receive a Homeowners Tax Relief Grant (HTRG) credit of $18,000 off the property’s assessed value for County M&O, School M&O and Fire District portions of their 2023 tax bill. The one-time HTRG credit is also known as the Homestead Tax Relief Grant and was signed into law by Gov. Brian Kemp on March 13, 2023.
This credit does not apply to County Bond, School Bond or other special tax districts.
Using a proposed 2023 millage rate of 22.266 (County M&O of 4.791, Fire of 2.175, and School M&O of 15.300), the credit amount will be $400.79 ($18,000 x 22.266/1000) for properties with a Standard (S1) Homestead Exemption in place.
Properties with a Senior School (65+) Homestead Exemption will receive a credit of $125.39 ($18,000 x 6.966/1000) based on the proposed millage rate of 6.966 (County M&O of 4.791 and Fire of 2.175) and following the already applied 100% exemption from school taxes.
The final value of the HTRG Credit may change slightly should the Board of Commissioners or Board of Education adopt respective millage rates lower than currently proposed. The total credit value will be reflected on homesteaded tax bills as an “HTRG Credit”, with a notation that the credit is “the result of homeowner tax relief enacted by the Governor and the General Assembly of the State of Georgia”.
