Commissioner Alfred John Named Atlanta Regional Commission Board Secretary & Ethics Committee Chair
Forsyth County Board of Commissioners Chairman and District 2 Commissioner Alfred John was appointed to the roles of Atlanta Regional Commission (ARC) Board Secretary and Chairman of the ARC Ethics Committee on Wednesday, Jan. 10, during the first ARC Board meeting of 2024.
"It is an honor to be selected to serve in these capacities with the ARC Board as Forsyth County's role in metro-Atlanta and the state of Georgia continues to grow," said John. “I am humbled to be a part of the committee’s leadership to represent our community outside of our county borders while progressing the region’s key initiatives, all of which have a large direct ripple effect on our community.
The 41-member ARC Board consists of the county commission chair from each of the 11 member counties, the mayor and a council member from the city of Atlanta, and a mayor from each of the 11 counties. The board also includes 15 citizen members selected by the board’s elected officials, including Forsyth County representative Tom Meinhart.
John was appointed to both roles by ARC Board Chairman Andre Dickens (City of Atlanta Mayor). Along with Dickens and John, the appointed ARC Board officers consists of Vice Chair Michael Caldwell (City of Woodstock Mayor) and Treasurer Nicole Hendrickson (Gwinnett County Commission Chair).
“In both roles, I aim to help position Forsyth County, and the region, in the best position possible to win infrastructure and other grants as we continue making our community Georgia’s finest,” said John.
Forsyth County joined the Atlanta Regional Commission in 2021 after previously being a member of the Georgia Mountains Regional Commission.
The Atlanta Regional Commission (ARC) is the official planning agency for the 11-county Atlanta Region, including Cherokee, Clayton, Cobb, DeKalb, Douglas, Fayette, Forsyth, Fulton, Gwinnett, Henry, and Rockdale counties as well as the City of Atlanta and 74 other cities. The Atlanta Regional Commission’s mission is to foster thriving communities for all within the Atlanta region through collaborative, data-informed planning and investments.
