Commissioner Cindy Jones Mills Honored and Reappointed to Board by Georgia's County Government Association
The Association County Commissioners of Georgia (ACCG) honored Forsyth County District 4 Commissioner Cindy Jones Mills with an ACCG Cornerstone Award on Saturday, April 27, during the 2024 ACCG Annual Conference in Savannah, Ga. Commissioner Mills also was reappointed and sworn in to serve as one of four National Association of Counties (NaCo) representatives for the 2024-2025 ACCG Board of Managers.
The Cornerstone Award recognizes one or more county officials who further the mission of ACCG, demonstrate extraordinary dedication of their time and efforts to the county association and provide outstanding service to their county. Mills was honored alongside Chatham County Commissioner Helen Stone during the conference awards gala.
“I have been so blessed to be a part of this great organization. ACCG and its employees have enriched my service to our county and made such a positive impact on my life,” said Mills. “To receive a cornerstone award from them, at this time of my tenure in office, is something I will cherish forever.”
According to the ACCG, Mills was honored with the Cornerstone Award for her exceptional leadership and active engagement within ACCG. She has played a pivotal role in advancing ACCG’s mission and advocating for significant county issues like mental health. She chairs the ACCG Standing Committee on Mental Health & Substance Abuse and has held many roles on the Board of Managers, including her current role as a NaCo representative. In this role Mills helps advocate for Georgia counties on federal policy issues and legislation, working alongside other ACCG board members to lead the association and guide policies during the next year. Additionally, she is regarded as a resource by ACCG staff, having testified on various legislation and assisting with Association events, thus enhancing the Association’s contributions to Georgia’s counties.
