Forsyth County EMA to Distribute Weather Alert Radios

Free weather alert radios available for residents throughout September

In conjunction with National Preparedness Month, the Forsyth County Emergency Management Agency (EMA) will be providing opportunities for residents to obtain a free weather alert radio and emergency preparedness information during the month of September.

“The radios will come pre-programmed to alert residents of weather advisories in Forsyth County,” said EMA Deputy Director Chris Grimes. “We were able to obtain the radios through a grant and are hopeful that residents will utilize them in hazardous weather situations.”

The All Hazards NOAA Weather Radios and emergency preparedness information will be distributed in coordination with Forsyth County Senior Services to at-risk senior citizens through the county’s Meals-on-Wheels program. Radios will also be available on a first come, first-served basis for all county residents between 3-7 p.m. at county recreation centers on the following dates (while supplies last):

Tuesday, September 18 – Old Atlanta Park Rec. Center (810 Nichols Rd.)

Thursday, September 20 – Fowler Park Rec. Center (4110 Carolene Way)

Tuesday, September 25 – Central Park Rec. Center (2300 Keith Bridge Rd.)

Along with distributing the weather radios, Forsyth County EMA is also urging residents to take time throughout the National Preparedness Month to plan and prepare for disasters and emergency situations such as severe weather.
