Forsyth County Parks and Recreation Facilities Go Tobacco and Vape Free
Forsyth becomes 22nd Georgiacounty to adopt a tobacco-free policy
Duringtheir Aug. 1, 2019 meeting, the Forsyth County Board of Commissioners approvedan ordinance making all county parks tobacco and vape free. The ordinanceprohibits the use of tobacco, tobacco products, vapes or other alternativenicotine products in any form at all parks and recreation facilities, indoorsand outdoors.
At public hearings on thetopic, the Forsyth County Parks and Recreation Board and Forsyth County HealthDepartment expressed their support for tobacco-free parks.
“Tobacco is the leadingcause of preventable death and disability in the U.S. so it made sense that thecounty adopt this ordinance for the safety of our residents,” said District 3Commissioner Todd Levent.
“We are glad that we areable to take these measures to ensure our parks are a healthy environment forall visitors as well as set a better example for our children.”
Forsyth County ParkRangers and the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office are enforcing the new ordinancewhich is effective immediately. Appropriate signage will be placed throughoutall county park facilities.
