Forsyth County Resident Elected to Atlanta Regional Commission Board

Forsyth County resident and Senior Vice President of Jacobs Engineering Group Tom Meinhart has been elected to serve as an at-large citizen member on the Atlanta Regional Commission (ARC) after being nominated to the position by Forsyth County Board of Commissioners Chairwoman Cindy Jones Mills.

“Tom’s perspective from the private sector and knowledge of Forsyth County’s needs from raising his three children here make him an ideal candidate to serve on the ARC board,” said Forsyth County Board of Commissioners Chairwoman and District 4 Commissioner Cindy Jones Mills. “I was pleased to nominate him for this position, and we are looking forward to working with him, and the ARC, as we continue to grow our partnership.”

Forsyth County joined the ARC on July 1, 2021. The ARC is the official planning agency for the 11-county Atlanta Region, including Cherokee, Clayton, Cobb, DeKalb, Douglas, Fayette, Forsyth, Fulton, Gwinnett, Henry and Rockdale counties as well as the City of Atlanta and 74 other cities. It serves as a catalyst for regional progress by focusing leadership, attention and planning resources on key regional issues.

Citizen board members are nominated by elected officials, and they must be a resident of the district they represent, cannot hold elective or appointed public office or be an employee of any political jurisdiction in the Atlanta region. The ARC is governed by a 41-member board that consists of:

•            The county commission chair from each of the 11 member counties

•            The mayor and a council member from the region’s largest city (city of Atlanta)

•            One mayor from each of the 11 member counties, with the exception of Fulton, which has two mayoral representatives (one from north Fulton and one from south Fulton)

•            15 citizen members who are selected by the ARC board’s elected officials

•            A representative from the Georgia Department of Community Affairs

“Tom is very active in the south Forsyth community and I look forward to his leadership and advocacy for the County in this capacity,” said District 2 Commissioner Alfred John.

Meinhart is Senior Vice President at Jacobs Engineering Group and serves as the chair of the firm’s Global Leadership Sales Forum. He will begin his term on the board as a representative for District 12 (Forsyth County and a portion of northeast Fulton County) beginning Jan. 1, 2022.
