Forsyth County Superior Court to Host Mock Trial for Brookwood Elementary Students May 13
On Friday, May 13, local students will get a first-hand look at Forsyth County’s judicial system. Judge David L. Dickinson will host more than 150 fifth graders from Brookwood Elementary School for a mock trial in the Forsyth County Superior Court.
The students will stage the trial of the State of Georgia v. William T. Sherman. General Sherman served in the Union Army during the Civil War and is known for his “scorched earth” campaign through Georgia.
The mock trial is an original script written by Robert Meinberg, an instructional coach at Brookwood Elementary School.
The event begins at 9:30 a.m. in Courtroom 504 of the Forsyth County Courthouse in downtown Cumming. The public is invited to attend.
“Participating in a mock trial like the State of Georgia v. William T. Sherman is a unique opportunity for students that not only furthers their understanding of history but also helps develop their understanding of the law and our American legal system,” said Dickinson.
