Forsyth County Updating Comprehensive Transportation Plan: Community Invited to Provide Input
Forsyth County is updating its Comprehensive Transportation Plan (CTP), which was last updated in 2018, through a multi-phased community and stakeholder engagement process with an anticipated plan adoption in February 2024. Residents are invited to provide input on future transportation needs and decisions as part of the plan update process.
A project website for the CTP update, that includes public engagement information, a timeline of implementation and additional resources, can be found by visiting ForsythCTP2024.com.
The CTP serves as a guide for future transportation investments throughout Forsyth County, including transportation needs, project implementation and funding decisions. The planned five-year update, which will look at the planning horizon of 20 years, will focus on fine-tuning the County’s transportation-related needs, priorities, opportunities, project implementation strategies and funding decisions to facilitate the community’s vision to improve the County’s transportation network.
To facilitate actionable plans and resulting implementation initiatives as well as projects that accurately reflect the desires of those who live, work and spend time in Forsyth County, residents and stakeholders are encouraged to provide their input throughout the planning process. Virtual and in-person public input opportunities will be made available through two rounds of community engagement that are set to begin this month.
The first round of community engagement will seek input on the draft vision and goals for the plan and on identifying transportation needs and opportunities within Forsyth County. In April and May of this year, the public is invited to learn more about the update and provide input at
- A drop-in style open house from 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday, April 26, in the banquet room of the Central Park Recreation Center (2300 Keith Bridge Rd.)
- An online survey available at https://wikimapping.com/Forsyth-County-Comprehensive-Transportation-Plan.html and available at ForsythCTP2024.com
- A booth from 3-7 p.m. on Monday, April 17 at the Vickery Village Farmers Market (5855 South Vickery St.)
- A booth from 6-9 p.m. on Wednesday, April 19 at Halcyon on the Village Green (6365 Halcyon Way).
The second round of public engagement, which will seek input on project prioritization, will occur in late August and September of this year and include five district-centered open house events held across the County and a second online survey. Event details will be shared on ForsythCTP2024.com as the events are planned.
The public is also invited to review important plan documents and stay updated on the project throughout the planning process at ForsythCTP2024.com.
Once complete, the updated CTP will include draft project recommendations and a fiscally constrained action plan. The resulting projects will include a wide variety of transportation-related improvements, including potential new roads, road widening plans and intersection improvements. In addition, Forsyth County is also looking at improvements for bicyclists and pedestrians.
This CTP update is funded as a partnership with the Atlanta Regional Commission under the Federal Surface Transportation Program.
