Forsyth County Water and Sewer Director Announces Retirement
Following 33 years with Forsyth County government, Water and Sewer Department Director Tim Perkins has announced his upcoming retirement. His last day with the County will be Feb. 2, 2021.
“I am proud of what the Water and Sewer Department has been able to achieve for the residents of Forsyth County,” said Perkins. “I have enjoyed working with departmental staff and others in the County over the years. I always encouraged my staff to be service oriented, and to go above and beyond in helping residents.”
Perkins joined Forsyth County as the Assistant County Engineer in March 1988. He then became Assistant Public Works Director and was named Director of Water and Sewer in Dec. 1995.
“I would like to express my appreciation to Tim for his dedication and service to Forsyth County over the past 33 years,” said Deputy County Manager Tim Merritt. “His leadership of our Water and Sewer Department will be felt for many years to come.”
During Perkins' tenure at Forsyth County, he managed the growth of the water and sewer system from $40 million in assets to $850 million. When he began, the County had no drinking water production or wastewater reclamation facilities. The County currently has one drinking water production facility and six wastewater reclamation facilities. The number of customer accounts has also grown from 13,000 to 64,200 water accounts, and from 1,200 to 34,700 sewer accounts.
“We accomplished all of this with a smaller than average staff,” said Perkins. “From my understanding, the growth rate of Forsyth County’s water and sewer system is among the highest growth of any system in Georgia. Forsyth County is now the 11th largest system in the state based on population served.”
