Georgia Forestry Commission Restricts Outdoor Burning in Forsyth County Due to Drought Conditions
While the summer ban on outdoor burning enacted each year by the Georgia Environmental Protection Division has ended, the Georgia Forestry Commission (GFC) has announced that, due to drought conditions, outdoor burning permits will not be issued in Forsyth County for the foreseeable future. The restriction on outdoor burning applies to all of the counties in the GFC’s Coosa South District, of which Forsyth County is a part. All outdoor burning including leaves, trash, yard debris and storm damage is prohibited.
The GFC cited the current drought conditions, ongoing fire activity and forecast models showing no significant moisture as the reasons for not allowing outdoor burning. A timeline for the burning restrictions has not been determined and will depend upon weather conditions.
