Park construction funded by Parks, Recreation and Green Space Bond and by Impact Fees

Northeast Forsyth County will be home to a new 109-acre park, for which ground was broken Friday, March 18. The new Lanierland Park will be located off of Jot Em Down Road, and its construction is being funded by the Parks, Recreation and Green Space Bond approved by voters in 2008 and by Impact Fees.

The new park will feature four rectangular synthetic-turf fields, two picnic pavilions, a playground, restroom and concession facility, and parking.

District 4 Commissioner Cindy Jones Mills, in whose district the future park is located, shared her excitement about the project.

“This new park will be an amazing amenity for the county, and particularly for the residents of northeast Forsyth County,” said Jones Mills. “This part of our county is in great need of athletic fields, so for us to be able to build four synthetic-turf rectangular fields here is wonderful.”

The county purchased the land for Lanierland Park in 2009 with funds from the Parks, Recreation and Green Space Bond.

“We are very grateful for the support Forsyth County citizens have shown over the years for parks and recreation,” said Jim Pryor, director of Parks and Recreation. “Voters’ approval in 2008 of the Parks, Recreation and Green Space Bond is what enabled the county to purchase this beautiful property. We look forward to creating a wonderful community amenity here.”

Prior to the county’s purchase of the property in 2009, it was the site of Lanierland Music Park, which closed in 2006.

“For 36 years, this land provided entertainment and enjoyment to the people of north Georgia,” said Jones Mills. “It is with great anticipation that I look forward to seeing families – especially the Chestatee community – enjoying this new park for generations to come.”

Construction of the park is expected to take approximately 10 months. Design of the park was completed by Amec Foster Wheeler. Construction of the park was awarded to Reeves Young in the amount of $9,247,273.00.
