Hose Uncoupling Ceremony Held for Fire Station 11
Fire Station 11 opened in west central Forsyth County on Sept. 28
The Forsyth County Fire Departmenthosted a hose uncoupling ceremony for the newly opened Fire Station 11 (4655Pittman Road) on Tuesday, Oct. 6. View photos from the ceremony by clicking here.
The new station is funded by thevoter-approved Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST) VI program andby Impact Fees and officially opened on Sept. 28.
“Fire Station 11 proudly serves theresidents of west Forsyth County and provides enhanced coverage for our customersin this area,” said Forsyth County Fire Chief Barry Head. “We are very thankfulof the voters’ continued passage of the Forsyth County SPLOST program andeternally grateful to the Board of Commissioners for their unwavering supportof the fire department.”
Fire Station 11 is a 12,000 square foot,four-stall station, designed to accommodate the personnel and equipment thatwill operate out of the facility and to allow for future growth.
“It’s always an honor to be a part of anuncoupling ceremony for a new fire station and to see the great pride the FireDepartment takes in each of their new facilities,” said District 3 CommissionerTodd Levent. “The station is a beacon to our growing community that theirsafety is a priority.”
In Sept. 2018, the Forsyth County FireDepartment was awarded a grant from the Department of Homeland Security/FEMA tosupport the staff cost at Fire Station 11. The Staffing for Adequate Fire andEmergency Response (SAFER) grant funded the hiring of 12 new firefighters forthe new station. The grant provided funding for 2019, 2020 and 2021 that wasnot otherwise fully funded in the Fire Department’s budget.
Construction of new Fire Station 11 wasawarded to Cooper & Co. General Contractors, Inc. of Cumming in the amountof $4,261,607. The architect for the project is Croft and Associates.
