Junior Fire Academy Offered by Forsyth County Fire Department

Eighth annual program available forrising seventh- and eighth-graders

 

The Forsyth County FireDepartment invites youth of Forsyth County interested in learning what it takesto be a firefighter to sign up for a free weeklong daytime summer camp program.The Junior Fire Academy, for students entering seventh and eighth grade thisfall, will be held Monday, June 4, through Friday, June 8. 

 

The camp providesparticipants education and experiences surrounding the job of a firefighter.Topics covered include firefighting, search-and-rescue practices, CPR and more.

 

“The Junior Fire Academyis a great way to show our community’s students a week in the life of afirefighter while also helping them build a sense of teamwork andresponsibility,” said Fire Chief Danny Bowman. “We want the children to learnsafety lessons about things around their homes and schools that they encounterevery day.” 

 

The Junior Fire Academyprogram will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Fire DepartmentHeadquarters at the Forsyth County Public Safety Complex on Settingdown Road.Campers may be dropped off after 8 a.m. and must be picked up by 4 p.m. 

 

Those interested inattending the Junior Fire Academy must submit a completed application byFriday, May 11. The application is available on the Fire Department page on theForsyth County website at forsythco.com. Space for the program is limited.
