Free workshops are open to adults

Keep Forsyth County Beautiful (KFCB) will be hosting two informative workshops – Water Quality 101 and Sign 101 – this month at the Post Road Library, located at 5010 Post Road in Cumming. The workshops are free and intended for adult residents, though children ages 12 and older are welcome to attend with an adult.

Water Quality 101 will be held Sunday, February 12, at 2:30 p.m. This workshop is designed for citizens interested in learning more about protecting water quality. Forsyth County Adopt-A-Stream Coordinator Kevin Smith will use a hands-on, interactive model to show how our daily activities can have a negative impact on our water. Participants will also learn best management practices (BMP) that can be used to minimize that impact.

Sign 101 will be held Sunday, February 26, at 2:30 p.m. Sign 101 is a workshop for those interested in learning about the signs we regularly see along our roadways including business signs, real estate signs, yard sale signs, lost pet signs, campaign signs, billboards and banners. Forsyth County Planning & Community Development and Code Enforcement staff will present an overview of the Forsyth County Sign Ordinance, explain how a permit is obtained and enforced, and discuss how the Sign Ordinance plays a role in our everyday lives.  

“These workshops are designed to educate our residents,” said Environmental Program Manager Tammy Wright. “Those who attend will leave with first-hand knowledge of how these topics impact our community.”
