Lanierland Park in Northeast Forsyth County Now Open

Project funded by Parks, Recreation and Green Space Bond and Impact Fees

Northeast Forsyth County is now home to a new 109-acre park, for which ground was broken last spring. The new Lanierland Park, located at 6115 Jot-Em-Down Road, was funded by the Parks, Recreation and Green Space Bond approved by voters in 2008 and by Impact Fees.

Phase I of the park includes four rectangular synthetic turf fields, four picnic pavilions, a playground, restroom and concession facilities, and parking. The county purchased the land for Lanierland Park in 2009 with funds from the Parks, Recreation and Green Space Bond. Prior to the county’s purchase of the property, it was the site of Lanierland Music Park, which closed in 2006.

District 4 Commissioner Cindy Jones Mills, whose district includes the new park, shared her excitement.

“I was so fortunate that I got to be a part of the history of this land. For 36 years, Lanierland Music Park gave back to the community by providing the best in the field of country entertainers. Generations grew up here making memories and spending quality time together and, with this new park, I hope that continues,” Jones Mills said. “Lanierland Park has been years in the making, and I would like to thank everyone involved – from the community to the Parks & Recreation Board to my fellow commissioners. This park and its amenities will make a tremendous impact on the Chestatee community.”

Design of the park was completed by Amec Foster Wheeler. Construction of the park was awarded to Reeves Young in the amount of $9,247,273.

While Phase I of the park is the only portion currently open, future plans for the park include a recreation center. The timeline for future development of the park will depend upon future availability of funding.
