Mary Alice Park Beach/Picnic Areas to Open May 26, Park Improvements Underway
Newly acquired Forsyth County park on Lake Lanier to open for summer season
Following various improvements, Mary Alice Park’s beach and picnic areas will open to the public for the first summer season as a Forsyth County park on Friday, May 26.
Mary Alice Park (1820 Mary Alice Park Rd.) was acquired by Forsyth County Parks & Recreation in April following an Intergovernmental Agreement with the City of Cumming that assigned the lease of the park to Forsyth County for operation and maintenance in accordance with the Army Corps of Engineers master lease.
“We are excited to bring some new life to this beautiful park and appreciate the public’s patience as we prepare it for the first summer season as a Forsyth County park,” said Interim Parks & Recreation Director Laura Pate. “County staff have been implementing improvements to the park and will open the beach area in time for Memorial Day weekend. We also look forward to additional improvements in the future that will benefit the community.”
While the park’s boat launch area is open to the public for lake access, the beach/picnic area will open May 26 following repairs, cleaning and other various improvements that include:
- Replacing/removing physical hazards
- Adding new signs
- Refreshing bathroom facilities
- Installing self-pay parking kiosks
- Adding new beach sand
- Other general restoration/maintenance needs
Self-pay parking kiosks have been installed for patrons to purchase a required parking pass. Parking fees are $10/daily or $60/annually ($54 for seniors). The annual parking pass will be valid at all Forsyth County Parks & Recreation operated and maintained lake parks including Charleston Park, Mary Alice Park, Six Mile Creek Park and Young Deer Creek Park.
Once full park access opens May 26, County staff will be onsite during limited weekend hours to assist with park questions, maintenance as well as safety and security.
Details on further park improvements will be made available at a future date.
