New Waterline Extension Policy Allows Residents to Apply for County Water

Residents within the current Water & Sewer service boundary can now petition for service

During their meeting on May 6, 2021, the Forsyth County Board of Commissioners approved a new waterline extension policy that outlines how residents can apply for County water service in areas currently not served by the Forsyth County Department of Water & Sewer (FCDWS). The policy can be found by clicking here.

This policy establishes the parameters for addressing ad hoc petitions for waterline extensions that are not specified in the FCDWS capital improvement plan.

Residents within the FCDWS service boundary seeking to have County water services provided can request services by filling out a petition for a County waterline found on the FCDWS webpage. To determine if a residence is currently in the County’s water service area, click here.

All petitions for waterline extension will be evaluated on an annual basis. Exceptions may be granted based on special circumstances as determined by the FCDWS and approved by the Forsyth County Board of Commissioners. The FCDWS will review each petition to estimate the cost and financial viability of the proposed waterline extension. A recommendation to approve or deny each petition will be made to the Board of Commissioners annually based on the business case and priority of the petition. Full details, including the criteria for petition prioritization, can be found in the waterline extension policy.
