Proposed SPLOST IX Project List, Funding Allocation Areas And Survey Available

Residents are encouraged to review and provide their feedback to a list of proposed projects that could be funded by the proposed SPLOST program continuation, if approved by Forsyth County voters in Nov. 2024. The proposed projects are subject to change and are based on various comprehensive and master plans, departmental strategic planning and community input.

The projected allocation of funds from the proposed SPLOST IX program, as well as the project list, survey for resident feedback and more information can be found by visiting www.forsythco.com/SPLOST.

“The County’s SPLOST program has funded critical public safety, transportation, parks and other capital improvements since first being approved by voters in 1987,” said County Manager David McKee. “If approved for a ninth consecutive program, SPLOST would allow the County to further fund future critical infrastructure projects without the need of bonds, millage rate increases or other revenue streams that could come at a detriment to taxpayers.”

Beginning Wednesday, July 24, the County will host a series of public information open house meetings for residents to meet with officials regarding SPLOST and proposed strategic capital improvements for the future. Representatives from the Fire Department, Sheriff’s Office, Parks & Recreation, Department of Water & Sewer, Engineering, Capital Projects and the Department of Finance will be on hand at the meetings to meet with residents.

A total of 10 public input meetings will be held at various locations throughout the County, with two meetings held in each district to enable as many residents to attend as possible. No formal presentation will be made, and residents are encouraged to drop in at any time during meeting hours, regardless of which district they reside in. The same information and survey provided during each open house meeting will also be available at www.forsythco.com/SPLOST.

Each meeting will be held between 6-7:30 p.m. on the following dates/locations:

What is SPLOST?
Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax, or SPLOST, is a special one percent voter-approved sales and use tax in Forsyth County for a specified period of time (up to six years), raising an estimated amount of revenue for designated programs or named capital projects. The sales tax has been in place in the county since 1987, when it was first approved by Forsyth County voters. Forsyth County voters have subsequently approved seven additional referendums continuing the program. SPLOST IX is scheduled to be voted on by Forsyth County voters in Nov. 2024.

What have previous SPLOST programs funded?
Past SPLOST programs have provided funding for a number of important infrastructure projects that otherwise may not have been possible. These include numerous transportation projects such as new roads, road widenings, intersection improvements and sidewalks; fire engines and fire stations; land for parks and green space; libraries; the animal shelter and more.
