5/9/25 UPDATE: CANCELED DUE TO WEATHER
Due to forecasted severe weather, the Monday, May 12 ribbon cutting ceremony for the new Central Park Senior Recreation & Services has been canceled out of an abundance of caution for attendees.

A ribbon cutting ceremony for renovations at the new Central Park Senior Recreation & Services (2300 Keith Bridge Road) will be held at 9 a.m. on Monday, May 12, to highlight improvements made and the opening of this facility, which will replace the Forsyth County Department of Senior Services’ Charles Place facility.
The public is also invited to a separate grand opening event for the facility to be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Monday, May 19, which will feature tours of the facility, games and interactions with staff.
The renovations to the Central Park Senior Recreation & Services facility include:
- Additional parking
- Kitchen renovations with updated appliances and walk-in cooler and freezer
- Outdoor canopy and patio furniture
- Coffee bar
- Reception desk

“Central Park Senior Recreation & Services is redefining the experience of aging through a dynamic blend of wellness, enrichment and support services. We combine active adult recreation with essential older adult support services for a holistic, evidenced-based approach to living well,” said Director of Senior Services Sharolyn Flemons. “At this location, members will enjoy a diverse range of offerings including group fitness, art exploration, card games, social groups and intellectually stimulating presentations and discussions.”
Central Park Senior Recreation & Services will offer lunch meals for a reasonable fee. Soup, salad and sandwiches will be available, as well as a coffee bar for a small fee. Senior Services’ Meals on Wheels program will also operate from this facility.
The Respite Day Program will be offered at the center, which will provide structured, engaging care for individuals who need additional support while giving caregivers peace of mind.
The additions and updates are part of Phase II of the project, following Phase I, which included an expansion of the Central Park Recreation Center. The total for both phases of the project was approximately $8.3 million and funded by SPLOST VIII and other funding sources. The designer of the project was LDDBlueline, and the contractor was Cooper & Co. General Contractors.
The Charles Place facility (595 Dahlonega Street), following future renovations, will become the new home of the Department of Parks & Recreation’s Therapeutic Recreation program.
