SPLOST Sales Tax to be Focus of Special Called Meeting
The Forsyth County Board of Commissioners will hold a special called meeting Wednesday, March 28 at 9 a.m., as the next step in discussions regarding the proposed continuation of the county’s SPLOST penny sales tax.

SPLOST stands for Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax. It is a special one percent voter-approved sales and use tax in Forsyth County for a specified period of time (up to six years), raising an estimated amount of revenue for designated programs or named capital items. The sales tax has been in place in the county since 1987, when it was first approved by Forsyth County voters. Forsyth County voters have subsequently approved six referendums continuing the program. Previous SPLOST programs have funded road improvement projects, parks, fire stations and apparatus, libraries and the county’s new courthouse, jail and parking facilities.

The Forsyth County Board of Commissioners is currently discussing plans to schedule an eighth SPLOST referendum to be voted on in November 2018.

The purpose of the special called meeting on March 28 is for Board of Commissioners’ review of citizen input received through the ten public input meetings held over the past three months and the online survey conducted during that same period. The board will also be discussing potential projects to be considered for funding by the proposed continuation of the SPLOST program.

The meeting will be held Wednesday, March 28 at 9 a.m. at the Forsyth County Administration Building located at 110 E. Main Street in Cumming (Suite 220).
