In June 2022, Water & Sewer began to replace water meters in the county with an Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) system.
AMI systems can read meters remotely, sending water use information directly to WaterSmart to allow water customers access to near real-time updates. In addition to saving time, AMI systems will allow the County to read meters without the need to drive trucks up and down streets, resulting in less wear and tear on County vehicles and roads, and less disruption to communities. Currently, Forsyth County is replacing an Automated Meter Reading (AMR) system, which requires trucks to pass by customers’ meters once a month to gather water use readings.
Customers with AMI water meters will soon receive an invitation to access WaterSmart online. To learn more about the status of the AMI installation process or to sign up for WaterSmart, visit www.forsythco.com/meterupgrades.
