Dear Community Members,

2021 is off to a fast start. I was honored to be selected by my peers as the county’s Chairwoman this year. With this position comes many more responsibilities and challenges (and meetings) but I am excited about the opportunities before me and to be working with our great staff and our new county manager, Kevin Tanner.   Mr. Tanner came to work on January 11th and has already proven many times that we made a wise decision in hiring him to lead our county forward.

Recently, I was invited to participate in a “Fireside Chat” with the four newly elected Chairwomen of Metro Atlanta from Gwinnett, Cobb, Henry, and Forsyth counties by the Council for Quality Growth in Atlanta. One of their questions to our panel was, “What is your short-term and long-term vision for your county this year as Chair?”  I answered that I wanted to see improved customer service in the short-term and we hired a new county manager to ensure we achieve that goal. I want Forsyth County to be known as “business friendly” and that people are treated with respect and kindness when they come to do business in our county. We will begin surveying our customers to ensure we treat them right.

In the long-term, I want to get more commercial/industrial growth in our tax base. We have been a bedroom community for far too long and we need to pursue every opportunity to attract more commercial growth in our tax base and put more tools in our toolbox to be successful in this arena. With approximately 65% of our citizens traveling outside the county every day to go to work, we need to find more ways to create employment centers in Forsyth County so we can then have less cars traveling farther distances on our roads, and reduce our transportation problems as well.

I have a lot to do in a short amount of time if I am hopeful to make a difference. As always, thank you for your support and for giving me the opportunity to serve you!

Cindy
