Transportation and SPLOST News

Happy Thanksgiving week!  I hope this post finds you happy, healthy and ready to enjoy your time with family and friends. I want to thank each of you for affording me the opportunity to serve you and to be your advocate. I thank the good Lord above for each of you and for our wonderful county and all that serve the public in it.

I wanted to bring to your attention two very important projects - one is ongoing and coming to an end and the other is about to begin. Those are the transportation update and SPLOST 8.

Transportation Update - The Forsyth County News did a great article about this that I am providing for you here. With tens of thousands of lots zoned in North Forsyth between 2002-2006, it is imperative we get some congestion relief in this next update. It will be the guide they use to determine where funds go and the roads that will benefit from your tax dollars, SPLOST and impact fees. If we don’t have it in the plan, it will likely not get done. That’s why I desperately need your help in speaking out. The list of meetings left are in the article but the one closest to you is  at Hampton Library on December 7 from 6-8 pm. There’s also a place in the article to email your comments as well.

SPLOST 8
We are just beginning the project list for this new SPLOST that you will be voted on next November. My greatest concern is they are saying D4 can only get one recreation center in this SPLOST although Matt Park and Lanierland both have one shown in their plans. I wouldn’t be overly worried if they hadn’t spent future impact fees in order to finish Lanierland and Matt and those won’t help build the left out recreation center any time soon. Right now the parks department recommended it go at Matt. These two communities are spread out so far geographically, not to mention traffic congestion, that I see them as opposites and one doesn’t help the other, even though it’s all considered D4. I need your involvement in this project list to help me convince our board of how important both of these are for seniors to have indoor walking and programs as well as everyone else enjoying the indoor activities. I can’t do this without your help. There’s a lot to be said for the squeaky wheel getting the grease so I need for you to be squeaky and involved. Get involved now before the list is approved. I have said that not just D4 benefits from having a Rec Center at Lanierland or Matt so please let all your commissioners know. The same goes for sidewalks. North Forsyth had none shown on the project list and we need some too. I have been asking to get one from the schools on Wallace Tatum to the park but it cost $750,000 to get it. We need sidewalks getting to Lanierland Park too, as well as to the schools. Your voice is needed.  Here’s a link to the Forsyth County News article on SPLOST too. Thank you for being involved and advocating to make D4 better.

Happy Thanksgiving!
God bless you all!
Cindy
