Watering Your Garden

  • April 5, 2017 |

Spring is in the air and people are thinking about planting their gardens. Little Mill Middle School just received a $500 grant from Constellation’s Community Champions Program for a raised bed garden. I am a member of the North Forsyth Rotary Club and we have given greenhouses to Liberty Middle, Little Mill Middle, and North Forsyth High. Silver City Elementary received a greenhouse through the county. All of these come from the Chestatee-Chattahoochee RC&D Council. Some of these originated from a program that launched when Walmart resurfaced. The zoning for the Walmart on SR369 was approved in 2003 but came back to life last year. Despite efforts to get them to wait until more infrastructure was in place, the new store will open in September. Walmart did agree to give North Forsyth High $25,000 to launch a new farm to table food program. That idea has gone throughout our school cluster in District 4 and hopefully our rotary club will be able to donate more greenhouses in the future. The Future Farmers of America Club started back too and I was able to secure a $5000 donation recently from American Proteins for a livestock trailer. Automation Direct answered the call for our robotics team at North Forsyth High when they also donated $5000 for a trailer for the team. Our gardens are blooming in North Forsyth. I love to help our schools succeed in every way that I can because investing in our children is investing into the future of our county. With a garden there’s always more work to do!
