The Roads and Bridges division maintains approximately 1,200 miles of asphalt roads and 30 miles of gravel roads across the county in a prompt, efficient and economical manner. This work includes, but is not limited to, pothole patching, milling and deep-patching roadways, coordination with road resurfacing contractors, rights-of-way mowing and tree trimming, herbicide spray, removal of dead animals in rights of way, drainage ditch and storm water structure repair, cross and side drain repair and replacement, roadway shoulder repair, minor bridge repair and gravel roads maintenance.
Roads and Bridges staff also remain ready to respond to emergencies 24 hours a day, seven days a week by removing roadway debris resulting from vehicular accidents, clearing storm-related debris from roadways, plowing and spreading salt before and during ice and snow events and closing and barricading roads which have been determined to pose a danger to drivers.

Work needed on a County maintained road may be requested in the following ways:
Road Resurfacing Operations
The Engineering Department actively reviews the pavement condition of all County-maintained roads and annually identifies approximately 50 miles of roads in need of resurfacing. This resurfacing project is put out for bid each year and awarded to a resurfacing contractor by the Forsyth County Board of Commissioners.
The Roads & Bridges division works approximately 25 miles ahead of the paving contractor to perform necessary deep patching operations, which are flush with the roadway. When asphalt milling (removing part of the surface of a road) is necessary, Roads & Bridges crews work close to the paving contractor to shorten the timeline and minimize disruption to drivers.
